My meeting with Sophie Bocher
"Great project, let's talk about it." This short text message read in the night had a victory effect. I had been trying to convince artists to join my project for a while. I had been refused quite a few times for very different reasons. Sophie Bocher opened the door for me. That's how I started to concretely develop the Atelier Cire project with her, to lay the foundations. Without her, you wouldn't be reading this post.
We discussed my idea and his work. We discussed our backgrounds, techniques, copyright, project management and many other topics to discuss in order to reach an agreement. Choosing the sculpture that I was going to use to make my first candle was an initiatory journey. Everyone knows that choosing means giving up and I liked almost all of his works. After removing all sorts of constraints, it was finally the work entitled Enlace that was chosen to become an exceptional candle. You can see it on the Atelier Cire website, but here I present his Amitabha , which you will find at Studio Tashtego in Cold Spring (NY) USA.
