Modigliani and his candlelit dinner
Seen during the Modigliani exhibition at the Musée de l'Orangerie (Paris) this magnificent stone sculpture. I will give you the text of the legend that caught my attention.
Maturing a project for a temple dedicated to ideal beauty, Modigliani created heads and caryatids from 1910 to 1914. His Stone Head of a Woman evokes the ancient kôres and also recalls certain non-Western works, in particular the Gouro masks of the Ivory Coast. Originally, the artist had painted eyes on it. He sometimes fixed a candle to the top of this Head to light his candlelit dinners.
That says it all! Like Modigliani, we at Atelier Cire believe that sculpture and candles make a stunning duo. And like Modigliani, we love candlelit dinners.
